How to use Automatic Track Detection on Apple Watch

Note: This feature only works on Apple Watch Series 4 or above watchOS 9.2. This feature is only available in Canada, Italy, Germany, Australia and the United States. You need a standard 400 meter running track which is recognized by World Athletics (IAAF).

Apple introduced this new feature which is basically aimed at facilitating fitness freaks or sportspersons to reach their goals. This feature is enrolled with watchOS 9.2 or Apple Watch Series 4. This feature is already pre-installed in Apple Watches and is used to record the distance and pace of a user automatically while user is running on a track. This feature eliminates the need of manual monitoring of your progress. This feature helps every user to keep a record of their steps. In this article we will guide you about how you can use ‘Automatic Track Detection’ feature on Apple Watch.

How to use Running Track Detection on Apple Watch (watchOS 9.2)

  1. First of all, Open the Workout app on your Apple Watch.
  2. Then, Scroll down and tap Outdoor Run.
  3. Then, you’ll get an option to Select lanes if the wearable detects you’re on a track.
  4. Then, Select a lane by utilizing the plus and minus buttons → select Confirm.
  5. Then, Select a unit of measurement (Miles or Meters) if it’s your first track.
  6. And then, Tap Confirm.

Remember that you will receive an alert if you leave the track without finishing your workout.

You can change lanes. So, if you change lanes, you need to feed it to your wearable by swiping right on the watch face by tapping Lane. Here, you need to enter your new lane.

Also, when you complete your running goals and exit that particular track, you will see a route map that will be in the workout summary.

In short, if you have an Apple Watch Ultra, the data received will be more precise because it uses dual – frequency GPS.

How to enable Lap Alert on Apple Watch

When you are on your lap, the Lap alert will send you alerts about distance, time, pace with metrics. But to use this feature, you need to enable it.

  1. First of all, Open the Workout app.
  2. Then, Tap the three-dots icon.
  3. Then, Choose Alerts → tap Track Lap.
  4. And then, Enable Lap Alert now.

This feature is real fun as you don’t have to spend any time calibrating it. Also, if Apple Watch detects that you have come for tracking, it will automatically switch to track mode in the middle of regular run.
